Way back in July my husband and I scored a vintage replica Eero Saarinen dining table at an estate sale. I would show you a photo, but it was in two pieces when we picked it up and it is unfortunately still sitting in our dark basement not put together.
As soon as I saw this image, I thought to myself that I really needed to try and get this beauty upstairs. The top is similar in design and the colour of wood is almost the same. This version is Rubberwood, I believe our's is teak. It really is a beautifully crafted table that will seat 6-8 people, and we will use it everyday for dining. As I said to my husband while we were bidding on it...it's an heirloom piece. Hopefully our kids will fight over it one day for their own homes! I have also wanted to add moulding to the wall behind the table since we moved in four years ago, 2018 I think it might be the year.
Most Saarinen tables are oval, ours is a 60" circle. My husband thinks it will be tight, but I know it will fit and we will adjust to the space we have to walk around it just fine. We currently have a vintage rug under the table and it will not fit with the new one. Our hardwood is similar in tone to the table top so that's the only thing that I think will bother me. Our current table is glass and the one before that was glass, which is not ideal for kids but windex has been my daily friend for over 10 years.
The above image is similar in design but our tulip base is white. The wood top appears to be divided into sections like Adler's design, this one looks like one piece of veneered wood.
We have enough furniture now, so I really need to slow down on my thrifting skills in the New Year. My friend recently said that I'm the gal to go to if you are looking for that perfect piece, I'll take that as a compliment.
